History of The Last Word Cocktail

The last word is a cocktail that was created in the Detroit Athletic Club‘s bar in the early 1900s by one of there bartenders. Soon following, this beverage made its way across the American frontier and became very well known, it even made an appearance in one of Ted Saucier’s famous books called, Bottom’s up. This tangy drink only lasted in the spotlight ’til the 50s, when the hype was over and its fame had run its course. But, thanks to the millennials, the last word cocktail is back on the shelves as a popular drink to order at the bar. Due to its sharp and intense flavour, it goes down like water for most people which is one of the reasons for its popularity.

Recipe F.A.Q’s

Is there a different type of liquor I can use?

Not really, if you change the gin in this drink to another liquor, the taste will completely change. So if you’re ok with a whole different drink then go for it! otherwise stick to the gin.

Where can I get this?

You can find all of these ingredients at the grocery and liquor store or you can buy this drink at most bars.

My drink is too strong for my liking, what can I do?

I would reccomend using less gin next time, but try adding more limejuice to the cocktail, that should do it.
