History of Pink Lady Cocktail

The origins of this cocktail are fairly unknown. It’s said to have taken its name from a broadway musical in 1911 made by Ivan Caryll. The drink was named in honour of the star of the musical, Hazel Dawn, known as ‘The Pink Lady”.

This was a very popular drink during the prohibition era because the multiple ingredients masked the taste of the gin. During those days the quality of gin was known to be bad. Due to this, the drink became popular.

Recipe Notes & F.A.Q’s

Is there another way to make the drink?

There are multiple ways to make this drink. In it’s most basic form, there are three ingredients; a glass of gin, a tablespoon of grenadine, and one egg white, shaken and strained into a glass.

Do I have to use egg whites?

Egg whites make the drink thicker and dilute some of the gin’s taste. You can remove the egg whites from the cocktail and it will still taste great. This all comes down to personal preference.

Is it dangerous eating raw eggs?

There is always a risk when consuming raw food. Older adults, pregnant women, infants, and immunocompromised people should avoid eating raw eggs.
