  • Bitters
  • Sweet vermouth
  • Ice
  • 1 cherry

  • Chilled coupe glass
  • Stirring spoon or stick
  • Mixing Glass
  • Strainer


  • 2 oz Rye Whisky
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • 3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Ice


  • Add all three Ingredients into a chilled mixing glass over ice
  • Mix well for about 25 seconds
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass
  • Garnish with a cherry and enjoy

This particular cocktail originated in New York City at the Manhattan club in the early 1870’s. It was invented there by a man by the name of DR. lain Marshall. The drink was created at a large presidential candidate banquet. The success of the drink is what created the success of the Manhattan cocktail making it known to many, after being named after the place in which it was born. An interesting fact about the Manhattan is that it was the first cocktail to use Vermouth as a blend.
